Summary of input from our third meeting on October 11th:
The meetings take place in the main parish hall at the Fountain Community Church on Broadway and Halleck, right next to the plaza, thanks to Rick Quall and his parish.

Goals for 3rd Meeting:
How would the community like to see the entire plaza re-created. Develop drawings from meeting participants to start creating an actual site plan.

The design charette continues to developing the combination of historical, natural, and whimsical personality and interactive components. The excitement over the gateway concept as a source for neighborhood pride and identity continues to be developed. People drew their own ideas on Fountain Plaza site plan templates with pre-existing things that will be staying in the park like the big tree, etc

Ideas:

The plank road concrete stamp concept could wind between the 3 entrances into the space from each side of the triangle
3 sitting places
3 arbors/entrances facing each of the neighborhoods with accompanying symbol/signage
Foot/hoof/paw prints in pavement concept extended to include possible eye-catching things embedded in the concrete such as colored glass, coins, or other shiny things to draw interest from small children
Prints could be conveyed as moving through time from past to present to future
Developing the idea of wind instruments and the symphony of sounds in the plaza, we talked about playable bells/chimes that could also possibly be played by the rain
Paddlewheel windspinner
A viewmaster-type art installation that people can look into and see different photos of historical Whatcom county or...
Idea of playable drums or xylophone at the base of the large metal anchor tower
Weather vane on top of the large metal anchor tower
Possibility of a simple labyrinth embedded in pavement
Bouncy spring mounted toy horse for small kids like the ones at Elizabeth Park
Benches / stools / tables as stump replicas

Meeting 4: Nov 7 - Weds - 7-9 p.m.
Finalize the vision
by showing 3 different possible plans and taking feedback to refine the final vision.

We will make the final 3 plans available on RE Store and RE Sources websites and present our final concept at neighborhood association meetings in November/December. After the community-based design is completed at the end of 2007, funds will be sought to finance redevelopment of the site.

Please contact Jason Darling, RE Store Outreach & Marketing Manager via email at jason(at)re-store.org with questions or input for the process until November 7th. If you don't have email, call him at his home office: 734-7161.
