RE Sources / RE Store has completed a community design process to discover how we can enhance the Fountain Plaza on the corner of Broadway, Meridian, and Girard.

The final site plan can be viewed here. If you have a high-speed connection, download a larger pdf version of the site map here.
The fountain itself will be a natural/cut stone waterfall, possibly incorporating 3 natural stone columns to represent the three neighborhoods that meet at Fountain Plaza: Columbia/Eldridge, Lettered Streets, and Cornwall Park

With the completion of the site plan and fountain concept, we are now seeking further funding for the completion of the different components. We need your help to raise the additional funds. To get involved in improving this gateway to three neighborhoods and namesake of the Fountain District, please contact Jason Darling, RE Store Outreach & Marketing Manager via email at jason(at)re-store.org or if you don't have email, call him and leave a message at RE Store: (360) 647-5921.

A team of volunteers has researched the history of the site as well as similar uses of comparably-sized sites. A series of public meetings took place during the fall of 2007. Each meeting, conducted as a design charette, was open to the entire community:

1: Sept 13th - Thurs - 7-9 p.m. Completed - View the summary of the input from our first meeting here. This meeting defined how the local community uses or doesn't use the space now. Historical use of site and historical views of the district were shared based on research. In addition, existing assets and challenges on the site were discussed.

2: Sept 27th - Thurs - 7-9 p.m. Completed - View the summary of the input from our second meeting here.
Focus on the Fountain:

The group brainstormed many ideas for different features and overall concepts for the site. People shared how they would like to see the fountain re-created and the site in relation to the fountain.

3: Oct. 11 - Thurs - 7-9 p.m.
Overall Site Design for the Fountain Plaza
Completed - View the summary of the input from our third meeting here.
How would the community like to see the entire plaza re-created? Using blank map templates of the site, people drew up their own site plans with various features and themes. The plans were shared and discussed.

4: Nov 7 - Weds - 7-9 p.m. Completed - View the summary of the input from our 4th meeting here including.
3 different possible plans were presented and feedback was taken to refine the final vision. Consensus was reached on several main ideas including the reduction of shrubbery and what types of seating would be the most desirable for a variety of reasons.

5: Nov 29 - Weds - 7-9 p.m. Completed - View the summary of the input from our 5th meeting here including.
The fifth and final meeting wrapped up the design process with the group coming to consensus on a final site plan and a fountain concept.

The final site plan can be viewed here.

We will be presenting our final plan at neighborhood association meetings in January and February. The next steps are to have the Parks Department take on permitting and any of the features that they have resources to fund. Additional funds are being sought to finance the redevelopment of the site through the neighborhoods, local businesses, private citizens, and grants.

He is taking it on as a volunteer project outside of RE Store business hours but can be contacted through RE Store.

Thanks to Fountain Community Church, Pastor Rick Quall, and his parish for the use of their parish hall for our meetings.
