Overview

Our 11th Annual Show in April of 2012 featured four galleries in two cities, hands on art events and more:

  • A month-long hands-on recycled art workshop gave the public an opportunity to make art from trash partially supplied by The RE Store at Whatcom Museum.
  • Beach clean up events in Bellingham and Seattle harvested close to a ton of trash from local beaches, turning it into temporary art installations.
  • The RE Store also was a sponsor and major contributor to the first Recycled Art & Resource Expo in Bellingham, April 20-22, organized by recycled art sculptor Thor Myhre and Allied Arts of Whatcom County.

The RE Store has been showcasing art and design work created from reclaimed and salvaged materials for over a decade. We are honored to partner with galleries, educational and non-profit organizations and creatives from throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Hundreds of children and their family members made art from trash at the Whatcom Museum's Family Interactive Gallery (F.I.G.). The RE Store supplied high-quality junk.
Hours: Tuesday - Sunday Noon - 5 PM - early opening on Tuesday and Friday at 9 AM

The RE Store's Trash Fashion Show did not take place in 2012, due to budgetary constraints, but it sure was fun for all those years! See photos of past Trash Fashion Shows here: 2011 Trash Fashion Show and 2006-2010 Trash Fashion Shows

"Litter Becomes Art" beach cleanups and temporary art installation

Completed - April 1st in Bellingham, 1-5 PM, Locust Beach in Bellingham
April 7th in Seattle - private event with St. Anne School students

We did a  beach cleanup in partnership with the North Sound Bay Keeper and the Surfrider Foundation for the Bellingham event. 30 plus volunteers collected 940 pounds of trash as the blue skies came and went. The art installation simulated the profile of Lummi Island with the words "Litter Art" in the foreground. View the blog post here!

In Seattle, we teamed up with Puget Soundkeeper to do a clean-up on a Ballard Beach with St. Anne School. The art work was represented in the Recycled Art gallery at Blowing Sands. Subscribe to our exciting monthly update to keep in touch with the details.
